Another flat roof completed in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
The existing felt roof had reached the end of its useful life. It was heavily weathered and beginning to fail, so rather than continue spending money on temporary roof repairs, the customer decided to have the old covering removed and the flat roof rebuilt properly.
We stripped the roof back to the existing structure, allowing us to inspect the timbers underneath and carry out the necessary preparation before installing a new insulated deck and EPDM rubber roofing system.
What We Did
- Removed the old, worn felt roofing and disposed of the waste
- Opened up the roof to inspect the existing joists and roof structure
- Carried out the necessary preparation to the existing timberwork
- Installed new insulation between the roof timbers
- Fitted new OSB roof decking across the full roof area
- Checked that the new deck was secure, level and ready for the roofing membrane
- Installed a new EPDM rubber roof covering
- Sealed and dressed the EPDM membrane around the existing pipe penetration
- Installed new perimeter trims and completed the roof edge details
- Finished and sealed the area where the flat roof meets the main house
- Removed all waste and left the property clean and tidy

The old felt roof had served its time and was no longer providing the protection the property needed. The new EPDM rubber roofing system gives the customer a clean, watertight and low-maintenance flat roof designed to provide reliable long-term protection.
By stripping the roof back rather than simply covering over the existing materials, we were also able to inspect the underlying structure, improve the insulation and install a completely new roof deck before fitting the final EPDM membrane.
It was a straightforward flat roof replacement completed properly from the timberwork upwards.
